Armwrestling technique. Arm wrestling secrets

Arm wrestling can be seen in almost every third American movie. The stamp, ingrained in our minds, is simple: two powerful men, sitting at the table, are trying to bend the opponent's hand to the candle. But in reality, armwrestling is much more complicated: there are tactics, and strategy, and ornate rules. Athletes fight while standing, not sitting, and there are no candles - there is only a desire to win.

Actually, the cinematic clichés are not entirely wrong. After World War II, at the dawn of armwrestling, everything looked like that. Truckers gathered in bars, drank, and then checked who was stronger. Arm wrestling is the perfect battle for a small enclosed space, it does not require complex equipment and extensive space. In 1952, Bill Soberens, an American journalist, organized the first US armwrestling championship in the Californian city of Petaluma - the Gilardi bar, where the competition was held, exists to this day and is proud of its role as the cradle of armwrestling.

Ten years later, the competition in Petaluma moved from bar to sports complex and received the status of the World Championship (its official name was the World’s Wristwrestling Championship, that is, the championship in "wrist fighting"). TV broadcasts of the championship began in 1969 - armwrestling became a full-fledged type of power competition, gained its audience of fans; today the question is even raised about its inclusion in the Olympic program.

True, from the point of view of American wrestlers, Olympic armwrestling has political drawbacks. The fact is that thanks to the system of weight categories (we will talk about them later), 18 (!) Sets of medals are played in one championship. And almost all the gold "flows" to Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan - the world's strongest armwrestlers live in the CIS. And this is a fact. In particular, Roman Filippov, European champion and two-time world champion, told us about arm wrestling, demonstrating techniques and techniques along the way.

Law is law

Armwrestling rules are quite simple - learning them takes a few minutes. Another thing is that sometimes it is quite difficult not to break them in the heat of the struggle. On a special arm-wrestling table, only three elements are fixed for each of the wrestlers: an armrest, a pillow (the victor bows the conquered's hand to it) and a handle, which must be held by a hand free from a fight.

Actually, there are two basic rules. First, you should never take your elbow off the armrest. Second, you should always touch the handle with your free hand. Moreover, it is not necessary to grab onto it with all your fingers and squeeze it until it crackles in the joints. To whom it is more convenient: some armwrestlers, in order to provide greater freedom of movement, gently touch the handle with one finger.

There are also a few basic rules that govern the capture and fighting process. For example, you cannot help yourself with your shoulder ( deltoid muscles armwrestlers have developed, large, and some bend down during the battle so that they push the wrist with the shoulder). But in principle, the struggle itself is quite free: you can even tear both legs off the floor and hang on the table, if this helps to win. The battle itself does not look as neat and beautiful as in the movies: sometimes opponents completely crawl under the table, bend over it, lie down on their stomachs, wrap their legs around the supports. All this is allowed if the elbow touches the armrest and the free hand touches the handles. Thanks to this freedom, battles look extremely "asymmetrical": when one slides down, the other, on the contrary, bends forward.

Actually, the tactics of some unscrupulous athletes are based on forcing the opponent to foul, and two fouls is already a technical defeat. For example, they begin not to bend the hand, but to push away from themselves, thus pushing the opponent off the armrest. Or in front of the judge's command "Go!" slightly pull the hand to the "wrong" side - it looks as if the enemy made a false start. In such cases, everything depends solely on the professionalism of the judge. There are two referees in one fight - on each side of the table.

It is interesting that sometimes the most difficult thing in a match is not the fight itself, but the setting of the starting position. It, unlike the battle itself, is very strictly regulated by the rules. When gripping the hands, the phalanges of the thumbs must be visible, the torsos of the opponents are in a symmetrical position, and the center line of the table must not be crossed by anything other than the "wrestling" hand. Since a lot depends on the starting position, armwrestlers sometimes look for a convenient option for both for a very long time.

Someone is trying to "steal the brush", that is, barely noticeably bend it in the direction of the opponent's tilt in order to win a couple of millimeters. Someone cannot grasp the opponent's hand in any way. If they dig for more than a minute, the referee announces a "referee's capture" and sets up the opponents himself. In this case, he no longer commands "Ready!" ("Readiness!"), And immediately orders: "Go!" ("Forward!") And the battle begins.

Sometimes the grip is broken during the struggle - accidentally or tactically, intentionally. According to the old rules, if, during a break, the hand of one of the opponents was tilted to the pillow at an angle of more than 45 °, he was counted as a defeat. Today, it is possible to break a capture without loss at any stage. After the break, the judge sets a new grip and ties it with a special tape - now armwrestlers will not be able to change the position of their hands, even by opening their fingers. Some wrestlers find it easier to fight in a pin, and they deliberately break the grip to force the referee to tie their hands.

Tactics and strategy

In general, all sports, no matter how simple they look, can be called smart. Everywhere you need to think, count, work not only with your hands, but also with your head. Likewise, arm wrestling is not just about pushing for strength. Of course, with a significant difference between rivals, the strongest can defeat the weakest in one move. But at the same time, the armwrestler-techie will easily “put down” any “pitching” non-professional, even if he is even twice as strong.

Armwrestling technique involves three types of wrestling - horseback, hook and triceps. The first type is most effective precisely when fighting physically more strong rival... With this variation, the wrestler does not put pressure on the whole hand, but as if twists the opponent's hand from top to bottom, the opponent's grip is weakened, it becomes more difficult for him to resist - and all that remains is to "put the squeeze" on.

Our consultants

The development and popularization of armwrestling in Russia is the responsibility of the Russian Association of armwrestling and other types of armwrestling, founded in 1990. RGUFKSMiT trains specialists in the field of armwrestling, more precisely, the Department of Theory and Methods of Weightlifting Sports named after A.S. Medvedeva - the specialization "arms import" appeared in 2006. Our consultant Roman Filippov (in blue) is the head of one of the leading schools in Russia in armwrestling - ANO CYSS "Olympic"; he is an international master of sports, two-time world champion (2004, category up to 85 kg, left and right hands) and European champion (2011, category up to 90 kg, left hand), multiple medalist of world and European championships, multiple champion of Moscow ... Roman Filippov's partner was his friend and sparring partner Roman Penkin (in red).

Hook wrestling is effective when fighting a weaker opponent - in this case, the wrestler fixes the grip by pulling the opponent's hand towards him, and then works with his forearm and shoulder - for strength. Wrestling in triceps is rarely used, since it is quite traumatic: with this technique, the wrestler presses on the opponent's arm with a practically motionless, "clamped" hand, using mainly triceps.

By the way, a few words about injury risk - it is quite high in arm wrestling. Most often, the ligaments are stretched and torn, there are dislocations. But fractures also occur, and in the case of the humerus, they are complex, twisted.

Arm wrestling in the USSR

Until the end of the 80s, armwrestling did not have an official status in the USSR - they fought only for training or entertainment. But in 1989, the Federation of Kettlebell Lifting and Power Show Programs of the USSR, together with NPO Insport, organized the USSR-USA-Canada International Armwrestling Tournament. The best representatives of Soviet weightlifting competed against professional overseas armwrestlers - and lost demonstration fights one after another, since the equipment was sorely lacking. The only Soviet athlete who won his fight was the super heavyweight Sultan Rakhmanov - with his own weight of 150 kilograms, he had no competitors in strength.
The failed performance of our athletes was an incentive. From that moment on, armwrestling clubs began to form in the Union, and then in Russia, coaches, professional athletes appeared, and in a few years the country took a leading position in this sport.

Armwrestlers rarely fight using purely one technique. The result is usually an abrupt change in strategy - for example, first to work on top, and then abruptly, when the opponent does not expect, to go to the hook, or vice versa. It is a skillful combination of different tactics, and not dull strength, that decides the outcome of a duel at high-level championships.

It is interesting that the tactical elements are thought out even before the start of the battle, and the preparation of the fight sometimes plays no less a role in the victory than the fight itself. One of the tactical elements is lubrication with magnesia, magnesium salt, for drying hands. Some armwrestlers deliberately lubricate only the tips of the fingers, leaving the back of the hand sweaty - this will cause the opponent's grip to "slip", which plays on the wrestler when fighting on top.

There are three main fighting techniques in armwrestling. 1) Wrestling on horseback: the blue athlete tries to bend the red hand from above, while almost lying on the table.

Finally, the legs are very important. It would seem that only the upper half of the body works in armwrestling - but it's not that simple. For example, you can rest your foot on the table stand from the side of the opponent (although, if he asks, the wrestler must remove his leg), thereby strengthening the lever - in this case, the whole torso serves as it. And you can wrap your legs around the racks from your side, firmly fixing yourself on the table. In general, the variety of solutions is large enough - each has its own tactics.

In Russia and in the world

As in boxing, there was competition between federations in armwrestling for a long time. Once there were three of them, until recently two functioned: the historical one, founded in Petaluma by WWC Inc. (World Wristwrestling Championships Incorporated), and WAF (World Armwrestling Federation).

2) Fighting in the hook: the grip is strengthened by both opponents, a symmetrical fight for strength is carried out.

The second was previously considered an amateur, but the prestige of its championships was growing, and two years ago the WAF finally pulled the blanket over itself, remaining the only world federation and organizer of the world armwrestling championships. At the last championship, which took place in Brazil, 120 (!) Sets of medals were played. Do not be surprised at this figure: there are a lot of categories of armwrestlers who compete in the championship.

There are two main groups - women and men of the Senior category (18 years old and above), among them there are quite reasonable 36 sets. 11 weight categories for men, 7 - for women, and in each category medals are awarded separately in wrestling on the right and on the left hand.

3) Wrestling in triceps: the blue athlete turned in relation to the red, pressing on the latter's arm with his entire hand from the shoulder.

The remaining 84 sets are played between juniors, disabled people (among the latter, there are also juniors and adults), Masters categories (from 40 years old and above) and Grand Masters (from 50 years old and above), and participants of the last two groups can also fight in the main Senior group. ... If you multiply all this by two (left and right hand), then by two more (women's and men's arm wrestling), and even consider that there are several weight categories in each group, it may seem that there are not even enough medal sets.

In the photo - an armwrestling table. The athlete puts his “working” hand on the armrest (2), holds the handle (3) with his other hand, and tries to bend the opponent's hand onto the pillow (1). Pillows and armrests can be rearranged for battle on the left or right.

By the way, about wrestling on different hands. In principle, athletes try to harmoniously develop both arms, but the left-hander still has a slight advantage in wrestling on the left, and the right-hander on the right. Therefore, in the Russian championship they fight according to the biathlon system - first on one hand, then on the other. If the number of victories is equal, then the winner is determined by weight: the lighter wrestler - naturally, within his weight category - is declared the winner of the fight. In world championships, medals for wrestling on the left and right hands are awarded separately, and this automatically doubles the number of sets.

As already mentioned, Russia today is one of the leading countries in world armwrestling, both in women and men. However, women are more stable and more successful. At the last championship in the main group (senior), Russia took 6 gold medals out of 36 possible. Irina Makeeva was especially noted, who won in the category up to 80 kg both on the left and on the right hand.

Only Ukraine took more - seven medals; six went to Kazakhstan. If we talk about the overall standings, then Russia is beyond competition here - our athletes won 42 gold out of 120 possible, that is, more than a third of all awards! The closest competitor is Kazakhstan with 13 gold medals. The founders of armwrestling, the Americans won only in three categories - apparently, that's why they don't really want armwrestling to become an Olympic sport ...

Arm wrestling can be confidently called one of the oldest sports that is not included in the program of Olympic tournaments. However, there is a huge number of fans and athletes who care about this sport. There are separate tournaments and projects where athletes can fight in arm wrestling: Nemiroff World Cup, Zloty Tur Cup, etc.

With all this, this sport is quite rich in injuries, and therefore spectators often see athletes literally fighting on the brink of their health. But all the same, it is a very entertaining, very healthy and bright type of a sports program.

Armwrestling rules

  1. You can participate in official armwrestling tournaments only in sports shoes and sportswear. Hands and arms should be bare up to the middle of the shoulder. The rules prohibit the use of supporting bandages on the wrist, and also do not wear rings and rings during the fight.
  2. Athletes' hands should form a grip above the center of the table. Armrests are installed on the table, which are the support for the elbow of the working hand. There is also a pin on the table that the athlete grabs with his free hand.
  3. The referee monitors the course of the match, who gives the command to start the fight and also ends it. The athlete is awarded a victory if the athlete's shoulder, hand or fingers come into contact with the roller. If the referee announces a warning or fixes a break in the attack, then the opponents have an additional 30 seconds to rest. After that, the fight resumes.

Armwrestling rules include the main block of sports laws that relate directly to this sport. Tournaments, in turn, refer to the original rules, but add some of their own points.

Armwrestling technique

The vast majority of people assume that arm wrestling is tactically simple enough and there is nothing extraordinary here. Like, victory lies only in the strength of your hands. It is a fairly common mistake that in armwrestling, technique plays the last role. Ideally, technique is given one of the leading roles, because a few moments and the right technique will make your victory real.

Let's talk about the technique of wrestling and the techniques that are practiced in modern arm wrestling:

  • "Pulling" - The athlete, in a grip, supines his own hand and, with a bent arm, pulls the opponent's hand.
  • "Riding" - Outputs the grip with a standard wrist movement with pronation.
  • Top Hook - The athlete operates as in the top position, but without obvious tension in contact. From the first seconds of the fight, the attacker must go to the side, piercing the opponent's hand.
  • "Triceps" - From the start, the attacker needs to move his shoulder towards the other athlete, pulling his hand at this moment. Further, directly by the triceps itself, the attacker presses the opponent to the pillow and snatches victory.

If you wish, you can explore other technique by studying them in the thematic literature.

Armwrestling exercises

Choosing arm wrestling, you are choosing the sport of real men. However, the lyrics should be left for later, but for now, you should correctly schedule your workouts. The professional athlete will need good response, ample endurance, and strong wrist and forearm muscles.

Armwrestling exercises need to be described in your own training schedule. Start your day with dumbbell strength exercises. Endurance needs to be reinforced with long runs on a regular basis. As for the reaction, here they will do sport games or simple exercises with a sports ball.

In general, here it is impossible to offer specific exercises or the correct methodology, since each athlete needs to select his own unique program. But the main thing is to train and go towards a verified goal.

Arm wrestling is one of the most popular sports associated with the manifestation of male power.

It became popular because everyone can do it, both men and girls, young and old. It is not even necessary to have any special skills and abilities to wrestle on your hands.

In addition, armwrestling does not require special equipment - any horizontal surface is enough.

What is arm wrestling? Arm wrestling is a wrestling on the hands... It belongs to the type of combat sports.

During the match, the athletes' hands of the same name are placed on a flat, hard surface, and the palms are fastened in a lock. The goal of the athlete is to press the opponent's hand against the table surface.
A number of tactical, technical and time constraints are imposed on the participants in the fight.

Though arm wrestling is not olympic look sports, it is very popular all over the world.

Armwrestling rules

Only athletes in sports shoes and sportswear are allowed to participate in hand wrestling (arm wrestling). Hands and arms should be bare to the middle of the shoulder. This is the first rule of armwrestling.

Protective bandages and bandages on elbows and wrists are not allowed. Also, there should be no signet rings or wedding rings on the fingers. This is the second rule of armwrestling.

Armwrestling rules imply that athletes' hands must be tidy. No skin diseases, with short cut nails. Baseball caps must be removed or turned backward with a visor.

It is possible to use shoes with thick soles, any height of the sole is allowed. Chewing gum should not be in your mouth. This is the third rule of armwrestling.

It is possible to use trademarks and emblems of commercial organizations and companies on shoes and clothes only with the permission of the organizers of the competition. This is the 4th rule of armwrestling.

The technique of wrestling in armwrestling is understood as the composition (arsenal) of the technique of conducting a competitive duel of armwrestlers.

Picture 1.

The armwrestling technique is developed on the basis of the analysis of the content of the competitive activity of the armwrestlers. This provision provides for taking into account the basic requirements for rational options for technology. They determine the position of the armwrestler's body links in space, their trajectories and the main points of coordination in close connection with the position and distribution of the opponent's efforts. Despite the availability of armwrestling, its technique is quite conservative, as it is limited by the small area of interaction between armwrestlers. Raising the level of general and special physical fitness, the development of the individual characteristics of the armwrestler - all this can affect the technique, its elements; but the basic mechanism of movements is preserved, since it corresponds to the greatest extent to the anatomical and physiological characteristics of a person.

The formation and development of the technique of each armwrestler, as a rule, takes into account his height - weight indicators and the development of the strength of the main muscle groups. A correct understanding of the armwrestling technique allows the armwrestler to more accurately assess and better use the main and auxiliary exercises in the training process.

Improvement of the armwrestler's technical actions should have a constant and continuous character as the level of his readiness increases.

In the technique of a duel in armwrestling, it is customary to distinguish the following positions: stances (left-sided, right-sided), starting position, attack phase, advantage realization. Below is a description of the techniques, techniques and some features of the techniques.

Racks(fig. 1). Before the start of the fight, armwrestlers can take the following stances: the opponents' legs are under the table and stand parallel or lean on the side bases of the table (Fig. 1, a).

If the opponents are fighting with their left (right) hand (Fig. 1, b, c), then the left (right) leg moves forward under the table, the right (left) leg slightly behind.

Arm wrestlers can lean with one foot on the opposite side of the table (Fig. 1, d), and also lean on the near side of the stand (Fig. 1, e). In any of the above positions, one leg should not come off the floor.

Start position... The correct starting position of the armwrestler should contribute to his as soon as possible transferring him to such an optimal position, at which not only the strength of the muscles of the upper shoulder girdle, the main muscle groups of the trunk and lower extremities, but also the athlete's own weight would be used with the greatest efficiency. Since the position of the arms and shoulders is limited by the competition rules, such conditions can be created by the position of the trunk and legs, which in turn are due to the anthropometric characteristics of the armwrestler.

In any case, without breaking the rules, in the starting position the armwrestler should strive to bring the shoulder and forearm as close as possible in order to maximize the "golden rule" of mechanics: losing in distance, we win in strength. In this case, such a "loss" creates additional advantages for the armwrestler for a successful fight. Due to the fact that the starting position of the armwrestler is stable, since it has a four-support position, an important point in creating optimal conditions for the fight is the correct position of the general center of gravity of the body (GCG).

Figure 2.

The most stable position of the armwrestler's body in this situation will be when the projection of the general center of gravity is exactly in the middle of the support area (PO). However, for maximum use of the starting position (Fig. 2), the armwrestler must take such a position so that the projection of the general center of gravity of the "wrestling" hand is perpendicular and is in the center of the table. At the starting position, the opponents' hands clasp each other in such a way that the phalanx of the thumbs are visible (Fig. 2, a). The grasping hand of the armwrestler should be perpendicular to the shoulder, and the angle between the forearm and shoulder should be 90 ° (Fig. 2, b, c, d). The armwrestler's second hand should hold on to the pin. This is largely achieved by the location of the legs, which, as a rule, are supported on the floor. In some cases, in order to use their anatomical features, armwrestlers use one or another vertical stand as a support, but only for one leg of the armwrestler, if he stands with the left side.

Attack phase... The purpose of the attack phase is to achieve an advantage over the opponent by bringing his arm out to an angle of 45 ° in relation to the table area. There are three main methods of attack.

Figure 3. Attack through the top (a, b, c) and hook (d, e) in armwrestling.

The first way is top attack(Fig. 3, a, b, c). By the beginning of the fight, the attacking armwrestler instantly begins a sliding movement of his fingers along the opponent's index finger and covers it with his palm. Simultaneously, there is a forceful pressure on the opponent's fingers in order to sharply "supinate" his hand to the position of the general center of gravity. The attacker seeks to squeeze the opponent's hand. Armwrestlers with strong muscles of the fingers and hand have an advantage with this method of attack.

The second way is hook attack(Fig. 3, d, e). From the starting position, the attacker begins to sharply rotate his hand with his little finger inward towards himself, and with his thumb upwards outward, thus breaking the opponent's hand below. In this case, the center of gravity of the armwrestler shifts to the left of the initial one.

The third way is push attack... The attacking armwrestler pushes his hand forward, bending it at the wrist (Fig. 4, a), and continues to move from the shoulder until victory is achieved (Fig. 4.3).

Figure 4.

Achieving an advantage it is considered when one of the armwrestlers, having carried out one or another technique, performs a movement with his hand, ahead of the opponent, as a result of which he achieves a victory.

Figure 5.

The actions of the armwrestler in this phase of the fight are aimed at exerting pressure on the opponent's hand in the direction of the resulting force, which was set in the attack phase, until a victorious result is achieved. This phase of the fight is considered to be very responsible, since many armwrestlers, having had an excellent start phase, believe that victory is assured, but they lose control and at the same time find themselves in a losing position.

Hand wrestling is a popular way to demonstrate your masculinity and find out who is stronger in the company. However, in reality the volume and number of muscles play far from the main role in arm wrestling... In order to win a confrontation, it is not at all necessary to surpass the opponent in strength and weight - wrestling technique is important here... Do you want to win in armwrestling no matter what kind of muscle mass you are opposing? Then these tricks and tricks will come in handy.

Correct posture for armwrestling

To increase your chances of winning, you should pay attention to your position.

Put forward the leg paired with the hand that is involved in the scrum.... With your free palm, you should grab the ledge of the table (in professional armwrestling there is a special pin for this purpose), while making sure that the hand and forearm are as close as possible to a straight line.

Since, according to the rules of professional armwrestling, it is forbidden to transfer the entire weight of the weight to the elbows - only one leg can be lifted off the floor... If your sparring is not professional and your opponent looks clearly stronger than you, you can cheat at the opportunity - the amateur probably does not know about this prohibition, and it is unlikely that anyone will look under the table if the hand fight takes place within entertainment program.

Hand fight tactics

If there is no complete confidence in physical superiority over an opponent, you should not lay out all your strength to knock his hand down in the very first seconds. In this case it makes sense to resort to wait and see tactics using some tricks to weaken your opponent:

1. The basic rule to remember: the more the arm is bent, the more muscles will be used in the fight... Therefore, you need to try to straighten your opponent's arm so that he cannot use all his strength.

2. Slowly move your body away from the table to pull the opponent to your side - forcing the opponent to straighten his hand to the maximum possible limit, you will either achieve that he will tear his elbow off the table (this is equivalent to a loss), or his muscles will relax so that it will be much easier to fill his arm.

3. Try to bend your wrist sharply inward, trying to twist your opponent's wrist. This technique is called the "hook" and it is designed to weaken the opponent's biceps and conduct a counterattack... This maneuver can be repeated several times to achieve the effect.

4. When intending to pin your opponent's hand to the table, use your body weight when moving - tilt your body with your hand... However, make sure that there is not too much distance between the shoulder and the "lock" - this can greatly weaken your position.
These tips will help you win armwrestling, even if your opponent is clearly stronger than you. Anyway, thanks to these techniques, at least you will not lose face and don't let yourself be put down in the blink of an eye. Have a good fight.
